How Rangers can surpass Celtic's Invincibles record as Steven Gerrard eyes Brendan Rodgers' history makers

Dominant Rangers have cruised to their first top flight title in a decade after a superb Premiership campaign.

The 20-point lead has ended any lingering hopes of Celtic's 10 In A Row bid as Steven Gerrard's side sealed the title before the league split.

There are still records to break and unbeaten season to target for The Light Blues during the remainder of the league campaign.

They now have Brendan Rodgers' Invincibles from the 2016/17 season in their sights with just six games left of the campaign.

While that Hoops side also won a Treble, something the Govan side can't do after their Betfred Cup exit against St Mirren earlier this term, they can still match the 106 points tally Rodgers' men hit.

They would have to win every one of their games from now until the end of the season as they sit on 88 points.

That's a record of 2.75 points per game, while Rodgers' men managed 2.78 across the 38 games.

To surpass the record set by the Gerrard's former Liverpool gaffer, they will have to get their shooting boots before the end of the campaign.

Despite all his success at Celtic, Brendan Rodgers is now being slated by Hoops fans (PA)

Celtic brought the curtain down on the 2016/17 season with a goal difference of plus 81, having netted a whopping 106 and conceding just 25 times.

As it stands, the Gerrard's table-toppers have a goal difference of plus 68, having scored 77 and conceded just 9.

The Ibrox defence are on course to set the record for the best top flight defence in Scotland ever, which could be a big factor in beating the Invincibles league record.

The current record is held by Celtic with just 18 goals let in during the 2001/02 season.

It will be a huge task but Rangers' impressive tally so far has put Celtic's history-makers within touching distance.
