How QB Kyler Murray compares to Seahawks’ Russell Wilson

The NFL draft is set to begin in just two days, and teams and analysts are rushing to finalize their boards.

Despite drafting Josh Rosen last April at No. 10, Arizona is likely to select Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray at No. 1 overall.

A two-sport athlete in college, Murray decided to forgo a baseball career and focus on professional football. Some expressed concerns over Murray’s 5-foot-10 height despite his record-setting 2018 season.

Are things starting to sound familiar to Seattle fans?

With the draft just days away, Doug Farrar of Touchdown Wire put together a piece on the top 50 prospects and their NFL comparisons. And you guessed it . . . Murray most resembles Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson.

Wrote Farrar:

Murray has been compared to everyone from Michael Vick to Doug Flutie, but it’s the comps to Wilson that make the most sense. Both quarterbacks stand under 5-foot-11, both are better in the pocket than you’d think given their height disadvantages, both can make accurate throws all over the field, and both are outstanding athletes and rare runners who add mobility to comprehensive skill sets as pure quarterbacks as opposed to run-around guys who throw the ball a bit.

While Wilson wasn’t selected by Seattle until the third round of the 2012 draft, if his new contract extension is any indication, Murray has his work cut out for him to live up to the comparison.
