How Prince Harry deliberately copied mum Diana's royal exit with first Megxit speech

Prince Harry deliberately channelled Princess Diana in his first pubic speech addressing his and Meghan's exit from the Royal Family.

Speaking on January 19th of this year while attending a dinner for his Sentebale charity, Harry spoke about his "sadness" at stepping down as a senior royal.

He went on to explain that the decision he and Meghan had made was not taken "lightly" and said he would continue his charity work to "make real long-lasting impact for all those that have been left vulnerable".

In his final line of the emotional speech, Harry echoed his late mother in saying people he met during his work as a royal gave him "an education about living", as documented in new biography Finding Freedom.

The book says this was no coincidence - as Harry had made a point of refreshing his memory of a speech Diana made in 1993 when she announced her withdrawal from public life.

Harry told the audience: "I will continue to be the same man who holds his country dear and dedicates his life to supporting the causes, charities and military communities that are so important to me.

"Together, you have given my an education about living."

In a similar fashion, Diana gave thanks to those she had met during her time in the royal family while giving a speech after the official separation of her and Charles was announced.

Speaking in 1993, Diana said: "In the past 12 years, I can honestly say that one of my greatest pleasures has been my association with people like yourselves.

"During those years I have met many thousands of wonderful and extraordinary people, both here and around the world.

"The cared for and the carers. The wider public, may I say that I've made many friends.

"I've been allowed to share your thoughts and dreams, your disappointments and your happiness.

"You have also given me an education. By teaching me more about life and living than any books or teachers could have done."

Finding Freedom, co-authored by Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand, has been publicly released today.

It documents the "fairytale" start of Meghan's entry into the royal family - to their stepping down as senior royals and move to America.

The book also looks at other members of the royal family and their relationship with Meghan and Harry throughout their romance.

It is suggested in the explosive new read that Meghan felt "disappointed" Kate Middleton didn't reach out and offer her any advise on how an outsider could cope with a new royal role.

Speaking more generally about Meghan and Harry's time in the royal family, Scobie said: "History will remember them as a couple who were perhaps failed by the institution of the monarchy.

"Where there was this chance to have a woman of colour, an American woman of colour, in the house of Windsor, representing the Monarchy just as much as her husband - that was a chance for the royal family to have diversity, inclusively and representation in a way that no other moment in their lives could have brought.

"For them to not have harnessed that is something I'm sure historians will be looking at in years to come."

A statement from Meghan and Harry's team claim they had nothing to do with the book.

The authors claim it has been put together from 100 interviews with those closest to the couple.
