How Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette's friendship first blossomed at Arsenal

Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has revealed that he hit it off with strike partner Alexandre Lacazette from the first day he walked through the doors at the Emirates Stadium.

The 30-year-old arrived at Arsenal just six months after Lacazette, when he signed from Borussia Dortmund in January 2018. the pair scored 50 goals between them last season, and have become popular figures among Arsenal fans.

As well as a flourishing partnership on the field, the striking duo are also good friends outside of football, and Aubameyang has insisted that that was the case from the first meeting.

"It was love at first sight!" He told FourFourTwo .

"The day I arrived, he came straight up to me and said, 'I hope we'll play together.' I said, 'I hope so too.'

"I knew we could form a really good partnership and help each other score goals".

The pair did initially struggle to play together under former manager Arsene Wenger, but have enjoyed more time on the pitch together under current boss Unai Emery.

When Aubameyang arrived at the Emirates Stadium there was a suggestion that he would be preferred to Lacazette in a lone striker role, however, the Frenchman was always confident that he would be playing alongside the new arrival.

"He was the kind of player I joined Arsenal to play with," said Lacazette.

"At first, people were saying, 'Hey, he's coming to take your place,' but I always knew we could play together."
