How Pep Guardiola is driving Man City midfielder Phil Foden on

Phil Foden has come a long way since he was a scared youngster nervous to see what Pep Guardiola was like to work with.

The Manchester City starlet left the manager lost for words after his performance in a pre-season Manchester derby in 2017 and the club have regularly rebuffed loan interest to allow the teenager to develop under Guardiola. The former Barcelona and Bayern coach has a reputation for improving players and has praised Foden's ability and potential.

As much as the England youngster has benefited from the coaching tips in training, he has also learned simply by watching how Guardiola conducts himself and how hard he works.

"The first day I went there I was kinda scared to know what he was about," he said. "I was proper scared but once you get used to him you know what he wants.

"He's not asking for anything that's difficult he's asking for the basics of football. The way he simplifies things is unbelievable. He turns a good player into an amazing player. The way he tells you to move is minor but it's a big thing.

"You see how much he loves football, it's unbelievable. He goes back into his office after games and he's already preparing for the next one, watching the next opponent over and over again and he has all these ideas the next day.

"You just think how can he do this so quickly, it's crazy. He works harder than I've every seen anyone work in football. It just shows what a great guy he is and it's unbelievable working under him."
