How Pep Guardiola helped Man City beat Inter Milan to Gabriel Jesus signing

Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus decided against a move to Inter Milan in 2016 due to then-manager Robert Mancini's failure to call the player to discuss his transfer.

The Brazil international was linked with a number of top clubs around the world, including Inter who were highly interested in his services. before he eventually decided to join Pep Guardiola's City.

However, the reason the Italian giants missed out on capturing his signature was down to Mancini's decision to ignore the advice of FIFA agent Sabatino Durante, who told the Inter boss to call Jesus and convince him to sign.

"He could have gone to Inter, but Mancini didn’t call him. This is why he chose Manchester City,” Durante told Italian outlet CalcioMercato.

“He was one of the most promising Palmeiras players. Inter were strongly interested and I told the Nerazzurri to have Mancini call him because he is a very sensitive guy.

"Inter didn’t do it, unlike Manchester City. Guardiola called him and convinced him.”

Jesus has since made over 150 appearances for City, providing 71 goals in the process.

He made a name for himself in his native Brazil with top-flight outfit Palmeiras before making the switch to Manchester for a reported fee of £29 million.

The 23-year-old has been capped by his country on 39 occasions and played in every match at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

City will return to Premier League action after the international break with a tough trip to high-flying Tottenham on Saturday 21 November.

Guardiola's side currently occupy tenth place in the league table having won just three of their opening seven matches.
