How Paris Saint-Germain can beat Manchester City as Pep Guardiola conqueror gives inside account

Former Lyon coach Bruno Genesio has given Paris Saint-Germain advice on how to beat Manchester City in their own back yard.

Pep Guardiola's side stand on the brink of the Champions League final after a 2-1 win in the Parc des Princes on Tuesday.

That means PSG will need to score at least twice at the Etihad to have any chance of progressing through the tie.

Mauricio Pochettino's side have a fight on their hands but Genesio masterminded a 2-1 win for Lyon in Manchester back in 2018.

Now managing Rennes, he has offered PSG his advice on how to bring down Guardiola.

Genesio said: "We had a team built to play, with a very technical squad.

"It was Pape Diop, Tanguy Ndombele and Nabil Fekir who were playing in midfield.

"We decided not to be on the back foot too much, even if sometimes you have to be.

"You need to play as much as you possibly can, try to hit on the break, bring the ball out, have time in possession.

"You also had to be ready for the physical challenge that they impose on you by their huge possession of the ball, because they tire you out physically and mentally.

"Even if it was in another context than a knockout match, winning at City, against this coach who is for me one of the greatest in the world, it's always something extraordinary.

"On Tuesday the team that won was the one which best managed its weaker periods.

"We've talked a lot about the highlights for City and Paris but not the weak moments. City struggled in the first half but they handled it better.

"That's what made the difference, in my opinion. Paris, who were very strong in the first half, crumbled under pressure a little bit."
