How one bettor used a 15-leg parlay to turn $50 into over $1.1 million

Holiday season is upon us, and at least one person has something to be extremely thankful for. As the sports weekend concluded, one bettor cashed in on a $50, 15-leg parlay that ranged across a variety of different sports. The reward? Just north of $1.1 million dollars.

The ticket was punched early last week as a hockey wager jumpstarted the bet slip before mostly NBA and college basketball wins ruled the workweek and gave the ticket some life entering the weekend. With better than a puncher’s chance at seeing the ticket all the way through, things got real on Saturday and Sunday.

Both were favorites, but the Houston Cougars and Oklahoma Sooners football teams needed to deliver victories, and they obliged. The Cougars did so with relative ease, cruising to a 31-13 victory. The Sooners, however, had some minor scares. Up 28-14, Oklahoma’s lead was cut in half when Iowa State scored a touchdown with a little over two minutes remaining. The Cyclones had a chance late as they drove into Sooner territory, but ISU threw an interception with 15 seconds remaining that gave OU the win and the bettor a little relief.

The remaining series of events that would lead to the huge payout was relatively straightforward; a Baltimore Ravens win (-250) and Jin Young Ko (+500) winning the CME Group Tour Championship. Ko grabbed sole possession on first place early in the final round and left little doubt of what the outcome would be. She hit 63-straight greens throughout the weekend and birdied nine holes on Sunday en route to victory.

As Ko’s victory was in the works, news broke ahead of the Sunday NFL slate that Ravens QB — and former NFL MVP — Lamar Jackson would miss the Week 11 game with an illness. Backup quarterback Tyler Huntley would be tasked with keeping Baltimore atop the AFC North and, most importantly, helping carry this 15-leg parlay bettor across the finish line.

Huntley performed mostly like a backup for the better part of the game, and things only got bleaker after the Bears scored a late touchdown to take the lead from the Ravens with under two minutes to play. But, only fitting for such a wild parlay, Huntley and the Ravens drove the field and scored the go-ahead touchdown before finishing with a 16-13 win.

At the end of this wild week of sports, the $50 parlay turned into a $1,133,530.50 payout.
