How Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reacted to Manchester United chants after sacking

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was “buzzing” to hear his name being sung by Manchester United fans following his departure as manager.

Solskjaer was sacked by United following a dismal run of results and performances, which culminated in their 4-1 defeat at Watford.

The Norwegian apologised to the away support at Vicarage Road, but was dismissed the following day following a run of five defeats in seven Premier League games, including embarrassing losses to rivals Liverpool and Manchester City.

Despite how his tenure ended, United’s fans didn’t show any hard feelings towards their former manager, serenading him during the 2-0 Champions League victory over Villarreal two days after Solskjaer's exit.

Supporters could be heard singing the Norwegian's name in Spain, with fans belting out “You are my Solskjaer” and “Oh what a night”, referencing his famous winning goal in the 1999 Champions League final.

And the gesture clearly meant a lot to Solskjaer, who was watching on back at home.

According to The Athletic Solskjaer was “absolutely buzzing” to hear the fans paying tribute to him following his departure.

Michael Carrick, who was placed in temporary charge following Solskjaer’s dismissal, also went on to dedicate the 2-0 victory at Villarreal to his former boss as United booked their place in the knockout stages.

"It’s a terrific night for the players, a terrific night for the club, to go through in the Champions League is amazing. That one’s for Ole that,” Carrick said.

United are now set to appoint Ralf Rangnick as Solskjaer’s replacement, with the former RB Leipzig boss taking charge on an interim basis until the end of the season.

The club are yet to make a decision on a permanent appointment beyond that, although they are still confident they can land PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino.
