How old is Michael Palin? National Television Award Special Recognition prize for TV legend

Sir Michael Palin has been revealed as this year's winner of the National Television Awards Special Recognition Prize.

The National Television Awards take place at the O2 Arena in London on Tuesday, January 28 and will this year be hosted by David Walliams, who replaces usual presenter Dermot O'Leary.

for this year include Ant & Dec, who are aiming to win Best Presenter for the 19th year in succession, while Ru Paul's Drag Race UK is up for two, having made the shortlist for the first time.

One award which has already been announced is Sir Michael's, with him being awarded the Special Recognition accolade, previously won by Paul O'Grady, Graham Norton, David Dimbelby and Ant & Dec.

His special award will mark the 50th anniversary of Monty Python and 30 years of travel documentaries. 1989 saw the launch of Sir Michael’s ground breaking travel series Around the World in 80 Days, which changed the face of popular factual TV.

How old is Michael Palin?

Born in Sheffield on May 5, 1943, Sir Michael is 76 years old.

As well as marking Monty Python's landmark birthday, his Special Recognition award will also celebrate Sir Michael’s career to date which has embraced writing, acting, presenting and of course The Clangers.
