How old is Gareth Southgate, is he married and how much does he get paid as England manager?

England's progression to the final of Euro 2020 has prompted much praise for their manager Gareth Southgate.

The former Aston Villa defender has guided his country to their first major final since 1966.

England take on Italy at Wembley Stadium on Sunday with Southgate on the sidelines conducting matters.

Want to know a bit more about him? Then read on...

How old is Gareth Southgate?

Southgate is 50 years old.

Where is he from?

He was born in Watford but now lives in North Yorkshire.

Is he married?

He is. He married wife Alison, 54, 20 years ago.

The pair now have two children - 21-year-old daughter, Mia, and 17-year-old son Flynn.

Gareth's dad told MailOnline previously: "Actually, I don’t think Alison likes football very much.

"Obviously she has to take an interest because it’s Gareth’s job, and she is always very supportive.

"She will sometimes go to Wembley for an international game — but not during the school term because she always puts the children first."

Who did he play for?

He played for Crystal Palace, Aston Villa and Middlesbrough during his professional playing career.

How long has he managed England for?

Southgate, who won 57 caps caps for his country, has been the senior side's manager since September 2016 when he stepped up from the under-21s to take charge following Sam Allardyce's resignation. Two months later he was appointed permanent boss.

He led the Three Lions to a World Cup semi-final in 2018, losing to Croatia in the last four.

How much does he get paid?

It is reported that Southgate earns around £3million a year for his position as England manager.

In April last year the Guardian revealed that he had agreed to a 30 per cent wage reduction owing to the coronavirus.

Does he still wear a waistcoat?

In 2018 Southgate was credited with causing a surge in waistcoat sales from Marks & Spencer after sporting one during World Cup games in Russia, with #waistcoatwednesday trending on social media.

This time around it is his lucky navy polka-dot ties that have been flying off the shelves.

“It was a lovely moment to have that connection with the public,” he told BBC Radio 4 about the waistcoat craze, "but I don’t think I’ll be wearing a waistcoat this summer."
