How often Leeds United were shown on TV this season - how it compares to West Brom and rivals

West Bromwich Albion were shown on television more than any other team this season.

The Baggies will receive a much bigger cheque from the EFL this season compared to many of their rivals, as will champions Leeds United, who also had their fair share of TV games.

The EFL signed a controversial TV deal in 2018, handing Sky Sports the rights to show 138 league games per season across the three divisions.

As part of that deal, it was confirmed clubs would be awarded money on a game-by-game basis, as well as receiving the £2.3m Basic Award and £4.5m Solidarity Payment.

In the EFL, based on the figures reported last year which are expected to remain the same this season, clubs receive £100,000 for every home game shown. That figure rises to £120,000 if the fixture is played on a Sunday and £140,000 if played on a Thursday.

Away teams get a fixed payment of £10,000 per game shown on TV regardless of the day.

The terms of the TV deal mean some teams receive significantly more money than others with a handful of clubs far more popular with broadcasters than others due to the viewing figures they attract.

It's no secret that Leeds United usually top that group, and this season they were chasing and ultimately won promotion, giving Sky Sports another reason to select their fixtures.

But they weren’t the most-shown team this season, runners’ up West Brom finishing top of the Championship when it comes to TV games.

The Baggies were shown as many as 21 times, which is 17 times more than the least-shown teams, Blackburn Rovers, Reading and Barnsley.
