How Nottingham Forest's summer departures got on for their new clubs

Football is well and truly back for another season as the Football League returned from it's summer break.

Nottingham Forest may not have got off to an ideal start under Sabri Lamouchi as their Championship campaign started with a 2-1 defeat to West Bromwich Albion.

But a number of the Reds summer departures were in action across the country and across Europe, with some pulling on the colours of their new clubs for the very first time.

In total, nine first team players left the City Ground for good this summer and five of those took to the field this weekend.

Hillal Soudani's Olympiacos did not play, as they await the next round of their Champions League qualification campaign against Istanbul Basaksehir.

Karim Ansfarifard, who joined Qatari club Al-Sailiya, will have to wait another three weeks for his league season to begin, while Jamie Ward is still without a club and Stephen Henderson is yet to pull on Crystal Palace colours in competitive action.

But here's how the other five got on this weekend:

Adam Crookes

Adam Crookes of Port Vale (Stoke Sentinel)

21-year-old Adam Crookes played the full 90 minutes at left-back for Port Vale as they started their league season with a 1-1 draw with Colchester United.

The defender left the Reds on a free transfer earlier this summer after a successful loan spell with Vale last term.

He will be tasked with helping to steer the Valiants as far away from the relegation zone as possible under their new owners this season.

Alex Iacovitti

Also in League Two, Alex Iacovitti impressed on his full debut for Oldham Athletic as they started their campaign with defeat.

Forest Green Rovers striker Shaun McCoulsky was left in disbelief as his effort on goal, which had Latics 'keeper Gary Woods beaten, was hooked away by the ex-Forest man in the second-half.

But in the end the defender could do little to stop Rovers romping to victory, as Taylor Allen bagged the winner with 18 minutes left to play.

Ben Osborn

Ben Osborn was back in action for Premier League Sheffield United on Saturday in their final pre-season friendly before the top-flight returns.

The Blades will kick-off their return to the big time in six days on the South coast against Bournemouth, but it was French side Reims that were their opponents this weekend.

Osborn started on the bench, but was one of a flurry of changes at half time as Reims stormed to a 3-1 victory.

Apostolos Vellios

Back in his native Greece, Apostolos Vellios helped ensure that his side, and Forest's pre-season rivals, Atromitos progressed through to the next qualifying round of the Europa League with a 5-3 aggregate win over FC Dac.

The 27-year-old led the line in both legs failed to get on the score sheet but his side will be back in action next weekend as they take on Legia Warsaw.

Jorge Grant

Jorge Grant played all 90 minutes as he and fellow Reds academy graduate Tyler Walker started for Lincoln City on Saturday.

The Imps, and Grant, impressed in the first half as Michael O'Connor headed Danny Cowley's side into the lead.

John Akinde, who replaced Walker with 20 minutes left to play, doubled Lincoln's lead late on to kick-start what could be yet another year on the up for the Imps.
