Joao Carvalho can be a big player for Nottingham Forest in the second half of the season, according to one former Red.
But ex-midfielder Guy Moussi believes to get the best out of the club record signing he needs to play in the No.10 role, while bringing in a pacey winger to play outside him would also be of benefit.
Carvalho has struggled to pin down a regular starting place under Sabri Lamouchi this season, and has sometimes found himself being played out wide.
He has been linked with a move away during the January transfer window, but Moussi says Forest should hang on to him as he can be a big asset in their push for promotion.
“I feel like he could be a really good player for us in the second half of the season,” said the 34-year-old.
“I can see him as being a little bit like Reidy (Andy Reid).
“Maybe Reidy had a few more goals in him, but I can see them as the same type of clever player.
“I think it would suit Carvalho if we had a bit more pace in the wide areas. When you have quick players out there, it allows someone like him more space in the middle of the park.
“He can find the small pockets as a number 10 and find people with a pass.
“But if everyone comes into the middle, then it’s difficult for someone like him to have freedom there.
“If we had other options, like a quick winger to run at people and take them away, that would give him more space.
“He’s like a little magician, but I think you have to play him as a No.10.
“If and we get the right additions, he can be a good player in the second half of the season.”
