How Nottingham Forest fans showed their support from afar last season

It might have been a season to forget, but Nottingham Forest fans still showed their support for the club - albeit having to do so from afar.

And according to the English Football League, the Reds were one of the most watched Championship teams on iFollow, the platform used to allow fans to follow their team.

Forest went the entire campaign playing in an empty City Ground due to the coronavirus pandemic.

It left supporters often watching games via the league’s streaming service, although that was later replaced by Forest TV, which the club launched towards the end of the campaign.

There wasn’t a great deal for those fans to cheer as much of the term was spent battling towards the bottom end of the table, before a 17th place finish was secured.

Nevertheless, the EFL say the Reds, Norwich City and Luton Town were the most watched clubs on iFollow in the second tier.

Official numbers of how many tuned in to watch Chris Hughton’s side have not been released.

Across all 72 EFL clubs’ streaming services, revenue worth more than £42m was generated, with around 360,000 supporters watching their team live from 1,659 games on iFollow.

In League One, Ipswich Town, Portsmouth and Plymouth Argyle got most viewings on iFollow, while Bolton Wanderers, Bradford City and Tranmere Rovers were the most popular in League Two.

The most watched game is said to have been the title-winning Canaries’ 3-0 victory over the Hatters at Carrow Road in March.

Forest fans have already been snapping up their seats in anticipation of being able to watch Hughton’s men in person come August.

The club recently hit the milestone of 10,000 season card renewals for the 2021/22 campaign.

When the first period for renewals opened, more than 2,000 season cards were renewed in the first two days of them going on sale - double the amount for the first two days of last term.

The renewal process will run through until Friday, June 11, with the final period of renewals now open. Information on whether season cards will then go on general sale will be released after that.
