General Election 2019: How Nottingham Forest fans bucked Championship trend

Nottingham Forest are a club with red running through their veins. The colour is synonymous with the City Ground outfit...except, apparently, when it comes to politics.

It seems Forest fans are more inclined to vote blue, for the Conservatives, much unlike many of their Championship rivals.

A study has found that of the constituencies boasting Championship football clubs, only four of 24 voted conservative in the last general election (2017), with all the others backing labour.

The area of Nottingham playing host to the City Ground was one of those blue areas, along with Fulham, Stoke City and Reading.

The trend was similar in the Premier League, too, with 17 of 20 seats containing football clubs painted red.

The results are now in across Nottinghamshire.

The Conservative Party made gains across the county and won a huge majority nationally.

There are several key seats which saw dramatic changes - including Broxtowe, Ashfield and Gedling.

Voters queued outside polling stations across Nottinghamshire on Thursday to have their say in what was dubbed the "most important election in a generation".

Boris Johnson has hailed a political "earthquake" which saw Labour support crumble in its heartlands in the face of a Tory landslide.
