How Nottingham Forest could benefit from missed Mitrovic 'elbow'

Nottingham Forest could be handed a major boost to their forthcoming fixture against Fulham if the FA take retrospective action against the club’s star striker.

Leeds United’s comprehensive success at home to the Cottagers on Saturday sparked a major talking point in a big weekend at the top of the Championship.

With many West Brom, Brentford and Forest supporters eagerly watching the occasion at Elland Road unfold, Leeds put Scott Parker’s side to the sword to overtake Albion in the league table and severely damage the visitors’ automatic promotion hopes.

What might also be waiting around the corner for Fulham, however, is a call from the Football Association, after Aleksandar Mitrovic was caught by television cameras appearing to elbow Leeds defender Ben White in the opening stages of the game.

The act went unpunished by the officials, which has led to suggestions that retrospective action may be taken by the FA. Should a ban be issued by the FA, the unavailability of Mitrovic would be a further blow to the club’s hopes of a Premier League return.

Albion’s very own Matheus Pereira was found guilty of catching Stoke City’s Joe Allen in a similar incident back in January, and he was handed a three-match ban in the aftermath of the game.

Mitrovic, key to Fulham’s promotion hopes, is the division’s joint leading scorer with 23 league goals.

The London club are due to travel to the East Midlands to face Forest a week on Tuesday when the absence of the star man, if banned , would certainly play into Sabri Lamouchi’s hands.
