Hearts are hoping to seal a deal for Northern Ireland striker Conor Washington.
The Scottish Premiership side are closing in on a deal for the 27-year-old, who is set to become a free agent after being told his Sheffield United contract won’t be renewed following their promotion to the English Premier League.
Record Sport has reported that there has been significant progress over the past 48 hours as Hearts look to get the deal over the line.
One man who has been pushing for the move is Hearts coach Austin McPhee, who is also part of Michael O'Neill's Northern Ireland backroom team.
McPhee has been trying to convince the international striker to move to Tynecastle since the end of the season.
Washington, who has also played for Queen’s Park Rangers and Peterborough, has interest from the English Championship and League One but has been impressed with Craig Levein's plans at Hearts.
Another man who could help convince Washington to move to Tynecastle is defender Michael Smith who is a Northern Ireland teammate.
Both men played in the recent Euro 2020 qualifying wins against Estonia and Belarus.
