The Tennessee Titans have eight new cases of positive Covid-19 test results, the team announced on Tuesday, which leaves their Week 4 game with the Pittsburgh Steelers very much up in the air.
The Titans will not be allowed back into their facility until Saturday, which means the team will not be able to practice at all ahead of the Sunday showdown in Nashville.
That obviously presents a major problem for the Titans, who currently have bigger fish to fry in trying to get an outbreak under control.
At this point, it would make more sense for the league to postpone this game, and there’s a solid way to do it, as several writers have pointed out on social media.
The Steelers have a bye in Week 8, while the Titans have a bye in Week 7, so simply rescheduling the game for each team’s bye week isn’t an option.
However, if the league moves the game between the Baltimore Ravens and Steelers from Week 7 to Week 8 when both teams have a bye, the Titans-Steelers game could be slotted in to Week 7.
That would leave the Steelers and Titans with a Week 4 bye, and the Ravens could then have their bye one week earlier in Week 7. Such an early bye for Tennessee and Pittsburgh isn’t ideal, but it might be the only option.
This would benefit Tennessee in several ways, as they would have more time to let the dust settle after this flurry of positive tests, and it gives some of the team’s best players more time to heal up, like wide receiver A.J. Brown, cornerback Adoree’ Jackson and left tackle Taylor Lewan.
