Huge amount PSG star Neymar's transfer value has fallen in six months

Data provided by the CIES Football Observatory has shown just how far Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar has fallen from grace this season following injury problems and off-the-field issues.

The 27-year-old joined the French champions in 2017 for a world record fee of a staggering €222m and scored 19 goals in 20 Ligue 1 appearances in his first season at the club.

Even in January of this year Spanish publication Marca still stated the player was worth around €197, only a small decline on the amount PSG shelled out on him two years ago.

However, the CIES Football Observatory, which analyses date to provide an estimated value of players, believe Neymar is now 'only' worth between €120m and €150m, a significant €77m drop since the turn of the year.

There are a number of reasons cited for this. This season has seen Neymar suffer yet more injury issues, and he was only able to appear in 17 Ligue 1 matches and missed the majority of PSG's ultimately unsuccessful Champions League campaign.

Perhaps more significantly, since the ex-Barcelona man has been accused of rape by 26-year-old Najila Trindade Mendes de Souza Neymar has been dropped by Mastercard for their latest advertising campaign, with Nike and Red Bull likely to follow suit soon.

He has also been involved in other unsavoury off-the-field incidents, such as when he was filmed striking a supporter following PSG's French Cup final loss to Rennes, leading to the player receiving a three-match ban.

And a miserable few months were complete when Neymar was hurt during Brazil's Copa America warm-up match against Qatar and thus ruled out of the tournament.

Some believe the player is in need of a fresh start, and he has been linked with a return to Spain, either through a return to Barcelona or a transfer to their bitter rivals Real Madrid .
