How Newcastle United star Allan Saint-Maximin has been rewarded for positive start to 2020

Newcastle United winger Allan Saint-Maximin has no shortage of fans on Tyneside.

Since joining the Magpies from Nice last summer, Saint-Maximin has quickly become a fan favourite - not only on the terraces but also on social media with his brilliant online presence.

His pace and trickery has made him a hugely important cog in the Newcastle United machine and he has scored crucial goals against Sheffield United, Oxford United and Southampton.

Newcastle have won just one of 14 games without Saint-Maximin in the starting XI, however, the one criticism people can point at Saint-Maximin is that the cold, hard statistics - goals and assists - don’t reflect the hype he has generated at St James’ Park.

Saint-Maximin has three goals and four assists in 21 appearances and some critics would argue his end product needs to improve if he is to realise the immense potential of his talent.

Therefore it might surprise you to hear that Saint-Maximin has been named in Who Scored’s Premier League Team of 2020 so far.

The statistics based website takes into account minutes played, goals scored, goals created, shots per game and pass completion rate, among other factors to compile an average rating for the season.
