How Newcastle United's deadline day is expected to pan out in the words of Steve Bruce

Steve Bruce says that only something "special" will pique his interest on transfer deadline day - with the Magpies mainly focused on outgoing business today.

United boss Bruce has played up the significance of early business for Callum Wilson, Jamal Lewis, Ryan Fraser, Mark Gillespie and Jeff Hendrick in the last few days of this year's extended trading period.

On Saturday night he said: "I can't see me in the market unless, as I said, something really, really special comes along on loan. But I don't think at this particular moment, that we'll be doing any more business."

Bruce will start the day looking for a new club for Christian Atsu, who has been linked with Watford and Nottingham Forest, while Henri Saivet, Achraf Lazaar and Rolando Aarons could also be on their way out of Newcastle.

Although, the date to join EFL clubs is October 16 meaning there is no immediate rush in that sense.

Peruvian youngster Rodrigo Vilca is one incoming deal Bruce expects to get done but he has already insisted he will be classed as an Academy signing.

He said: "The young Peruvian player, we hope, will be arriving.

"He'll be for the Academy to start with, that's for sure, so he's not really going to be involved with the first team."
