Allan Saint-Maximin and Callum Wilson in attack - How Newcastle United could line-up vs Chelsea

Chelsea will be looking to maintain their place at the top of the Premier League table on Saturday when they travel to the north east to face Newcastle United.

The Magpies are still searching for their first win of the season, as the post-Steve Bruce era getting off to a slow start with a 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace last Saturday.

Amanda Staveley and the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund (PIF) are yet to complete their search for Bruce's permanent replacement, so Bruce's former assistant Graeme Jones will take charge again.

While spirits have no doubt been boosted at St. James' Park, results are yet to follow suit. Could Chelsea be their first victims of the season?

Newcastle failed to score against the Blues in the Premier League last season but did take all three points from their encounter in January 2020, a 94th minute Isaac Hayden goal the difference.

A fresh influx of exciting talent is expected too but until the January transfer window opens they will have to make do with the current crop.

So, with that in mind, footbal.london takes a look at how Jones' will set Newcastle up tomorrow.

When it comes to injuries, Newcastle are in a better position than Chelsea.

Goalkeeper Martin Dubravka is the only long-term absentee, while Thomas Tuchel will be without Romelu Lukaku, Timo Werner, Christian Pulisic and Mateo Kovacic.

Throughout Bruce's reign, a 5-3-2 formation was favoured at St. James' Park and, given it is a squad largely built with that set-up in mind, it would be a surprise to see too big a departure from it.

Javier Manquillo has enjoyed plenty of game-time on the right of the five and will be tasked with stopping the forward runs of either Ben Chilwell or Marcos Alonso.

One change Jones may be tempted to make is the inclusion of Joe Willock in midfield to create faster transitions, with Newcastle likely to be playing on the counter attack. The front two pick themselves with Callum Wilson and Allan Saint-Maximin almost certain to start together.

Here is how Newcastle could line-up (5-3-2) : Darlow; Manquillo, Clark, Lascelles, Krafth, Ritchie; Willock, Longstaff, Hayden; Saint-Maximin, Wilson.
