Chelsea are at somewhat of a crossroad in their existence. For the best part of two decades, the club have risen to be powerhouses of the English game under owner Roman Abramovich. However, with the impending sale of the club, uncertainty remains over how the Blues will operate moving forward.
In fact, there’s been uncertainty for some time now since the Russian was sanctioned by the UK Government, leading to the club having to operate under a restrictive special licence from the UK Government. On the pitch, there are also questions over the current playing squad, with key figures such as Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen set to leave as free agents.
It leaves the club in a state of limbo but if there’s one man they need to guide them through it, it’s Thomas Tuchel. The German coach has already shown leadership in his interviews over the past couple of months to be a guiding light for supporters and staff alike, standing resilient in the face of existential threats.

Add to that his incredible results on the pitch, where his side have reached six cup finals in little over a year in his tenure. It makes for impressive reading, considering the position they were in when the 48-year-old took charge.
It comes as no surprise that Manchester United were reportedly eyeing a move for Tuchel as their new manager while the Blues were unsure on their future. It underlines just how integral he is to the team at the moment, something that parallels Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.
Klopp managed to guide his team to a first Premier League title, along with a Champions League and a Carabao Cup along the way. The Reds this season are still eyeing a historic quadruple, an impressive feat under a manager that has got them ticking as a key leadership figure.
And, as per The Times, the Merseyside club are set to step up talks with the German to keep him beyond his contract that currently lasts until 2024. It shows just how important he is to their model, with discussions kicking off two-years before its expiration.
This is something that the new owners of Chelsea will be tasked with facing rather soon too. Tuchel originally signed on an initial 18-month contract, however he signed an extension until 2024.
There were still some questions over his future at the club, but in a recent press conference, he revealed his intentions to stay for next season. “From pre-season next season we will give our very best and I will be fully involved with all my heart and my knowledge," he said.
Given his current importance and status in the game, nothing would make a bigger statement of intent than the next owners offering a long-term deal to the head coach along with some transfer backing.
