How Neal Ardley convinced Kyle Wootton to reject league clubs and sign for Notts County

Kyle Wootton admitted Neal Ardley’s persistence paid off as he revealed how the Notts County manager was key to his move to Meadow Lane.

The Magpies signed the Scunthorpe striker on loan last Friday which ended a long pursuit of the player having been a target since the summer.

Wootton has already played in the last two games since his arrival with Ardley having been keen to add his physical presence to the attack.

Several Football League clubs had registered an interest in him, but Wootton said Ardley had been a central figure in his decision to join the Magpies.

“The move had been ongoing for a while, but the main thing was the manager,” he said.

“He wanted to work with me, he wanted to improve me as a player which I am a big fan of.

“It was massive for me. If it wasn’t for that, I could have gone elsewhere. But I spoke to him a good few times before I signed.

“With the size of the club being what it is, the ambition is there as well.

“I thought it would be a good challenge to help them along that way.”
