The chance to see Cristiano Ronaldo on the pitch, especially playing for Portugal, is regarded as a unique moment. And the 2026 World Cup could be his last farewell for those wanting to watch a player many consider the 'greatest of all time' (GOAT).
Perhaps for that reason, thematch that pits Portugal and Colombia against each other on 27 June is already among the fixtures generating most interest on resale sites, with ticket prices now exceeding those charged for the Super Bowl.
According to The New York Times , citing data compiled by TicketData – which tracks resale prices – back in December last year, when the draw for the group stage was still unknown, the starting price for the cheapest ticket for the match at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, was under 400 dollars (around 340 euros).
Less than an hour after FIFA announced that the game would be Portugal versus Colombia, thecheapest tickets shot up to more than 2,000 dollars (around 1,700 euros).
At the moment, the lowest-priced resale tickets for the match are going for an average of around 2,500 dollars (more than 2,120 euros), according to TicketData figures, reports the Wall Street Journal .
According to the same report, the average resale price is nowhigher than that recorded for a Super Bowl ticket – last season's championship game in the National Football League (NFL) – which stood at 2,109 dollars (around 1,790 euros).
This is already the most expensive group-stage match, excluding games involving the three World Cup host nations. Beyond that, it is only topped by the final itself, for which resale prices start at 8,400 dollars per ticket (around 7,130 euros).
In their Group K opener, Portugal will face the Democratic Republic of the Congo at NRG Stadium in Houston. The team then return to the same venue for their second match against Uzbekistan, before finishing the group stage against Colombia at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.
If Portugal fail to qualify for the next round, the clash with 'Los Cafeteros' could be the last chance to see Cristiano Ronaldo play in the colours of Portugal's national team.
On top of the drawing power of the Portuguese star, prices are also being fuelled by the fact that Portugal and Colombia are both in FIFA's top 15, making this one of just four matches in the opening round of the tournament between two nations from that elite cohort.
Also helping to drive demand is the community of almost 500,000 Colombians living in the US state of Florida, which will host the fixture.
