Queen Elizabeth II will be laid to rest on Monday, September 19.
Her Majesty is said to have passed away "peacefully" at Balmoral Castle on Thursday, September 8. A Buckingham Palace statement said: "The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow. "
In the days since her death, the Queen's coffin embarked on a six-hour journey from Balmoral to the royal residence in Scotland. Thousands of mourners lined the streets to pay their respects.

The coffin remained in the Throne Room at the Palace of Holyroodhouse allowing staff to pay their final respects, before making its final trip to London. Her Majesty is currently lying in state at Westminster Hall, with thousands of people making the journey to pay their respects.
Queen Elizabeth was the nation's longest-reigning monarch, and was highly regarded around the world. Her funeral will be a huge event, and it is expected to cost some millions of pounds.
The Government has not disclosed how much the funeral will cost, saying only that it would provide details “in due course.” But with elaborate processions and rituals, it is expected to be a significant sum, which will be covered by the state.

It is difficult to estimate how much the funeral will cost, as there hasn't been a monarch's funeral since the death of the Queen's father more than 70 years ago. But in 2002, the Queen Mother's funeral reportedly cost £5.4m.
A royal expert told the Big Issue the Queen’s funeral will certainly cost at least that sum – and “probably a fair bit more” than that.
Elizabeth Norton, a royal historian specialising in the queens of England, said: “It is really difficult to give an estimate for the Queen’s funeral. No British monarch has died for 70 years and the monarch’s funeral always tends to be on a considerably larger scale than funerals for other members of the royal family.
“Prince Philip’s funeral was obviously fairly simple, due to covid, but the funeral of the Queen Mother in 2002 reportedly cost around £5.4m. A large portion of that sum was in relation to policing, while the lying in state was also expensive. Although it is impossible to say exactly what the Queen’s funeral will cost, it will certainly be at least that sum and probably a fair bit more.”
