How much will Sunderland make from their Papa John's Trophy final?

Sunderland could be set for another financial boost if they win the Papa John's Trophy final.

The winner of the competition will receive £100,000 as well as the coveted EFL Trophy, with the runners up collecting £50,000.

It's estimated that the Black Cats have earned £200,000 in prize money alone getting to the final. The club earns money for progressing through the rounds, participating in the competition and for wins or draws in the group stages.

However, if you take into account TV Money, iFollow match passes and merchandise sales the club could be heading towards a seven-figure fee.

It's believed that the Wearsider's pocketed almost £1 million from their run to the final in 2019 - but, with no fans being able to attend games this season, there is a possibility that their earnings could be considerably less.

Here's how the prize money is broken down:

Participation fees - £20,000

Group stage draw - £5,000

Group stage win - £10,000

Round of 32 - £20,000

Last 16 - £40,000

Quarter finals - £50,000

Semi-finals - £50,000

Runners up - £50,000

Winners - £100,000
