How much salary cap space do the Texans have at the trade deadline?

The Houston Texans are arguably 2019’s most active team on the trade market. Monday’s acquisition of Oakland Raiders cornerback Gareon Conley for a third-round pick only reaffirms that notion. However, they still have room for more moves.

According to Field Yates of ESPN, the Texans currently have $21.6 million in cap space to work with, good for 10th in the NFL. Houston’s AFC South foes, the Indianapolis Colts, are sitting pretty at $43.5 million, which is No. 1 in the NFL.

Houston’s $21.6 million in available cap space gives them the flexibility to make a trade if they decide to do so. Though they are running out of selections — their 2020 second-rounder is their most valuable draft asset — that may not be enough to spurn de facto general manager Bill O’Brien from making a trade.

The NFL trade deadline is on Oct. 29th at 4 p.m. EST.

There is also the possibility that the Texans add a free agent off the street amid injuries to their cornerback group and offensive line. It helps to have flexibility. They can also roll over their cap space to 2020.
