How much salary cap space do the Chargers have with the new league cap?

With free agency right around the corner, it’s important to know just how much space the Chargers have. On Friday the official salary cap for 2019 was raised to $188.2 million, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

That number went up $11 million. It might sound like a lot, but that is about how it’s been over the last handful of years. The Chargers have about $23.6 million available heading into free agency. Going down the roster, there are a few players that the team can cut to create even more space.

The team also has to sign a few in-house players that you don’t want to let walk away. Adrian Phillips is a big one. You have to assume he’ll be back after the year he had. It’s the question marks like Denzel Perryman, Jason Verrett, and some of the defensive tackles that the Chargers will be faced to answer. It’ll be a fun March, that’s for sure.
