- A yellow weather warning for heavy rain and strong winds has been issued across parts of England and Wales, active from midnight until 2pm on Wednesday.
- The Met Office expanded the warning area to include south-east England, cautioning over potential flooding, travel disruption, and possible interruption to power supplies.
- Chief meteorologist Rebekah Hicks highlighted that the warning coincides with the first school run after the summer holidays for some, predicting a wet and potentially disruptive start to the day.
- Rainfall totals are expected to be 20-30mm across much of the warning area, with some places potentially seeing 40-60mm within six to nine hours, and coastal gales are also likely.
- Separately, the Northern Lights were visible across parts of the UK and Ireland overnight on Monday, though viewing conditions are expected to worsen on Tuesday and Wednesday.
