How much prize money Nottingham Forest will earn from 2019/20 Championship campaign

Each club competing in this season’s Championship is expected to receive an increased prize money figure.

Unlike the Premier League, where teams are rewarded for where they finish in the final league table, prize money is fixed for each Championship side, regardless of their performance on the pitch.

That prize money is broken down into two main figures: a 'basic award' and a 'solidarity payment'.

The Championship are yet to confirm the final totals for the new season, but we are expecting a rise in prize money due to the controversial new £595m television deal with Sky Sports.

Last season, the basic award handed to sides was around £2.5m.

This is figure is given to every side in the Championship, meaning last season, champions Norwich received the same sum as rock-bottom Ipswich Town.

This money is handed out by the EFL, with the rest of the money coming from the Sky Sports TV deal.

Like the basic award, this is distributed equally. Last year's sum was around £4.7m, but that is expected to rise with the new television deal.

Clubs also have the chance to gain additional revenue when selected to be broadcast on Sky Sports throughout the season.

There is £100,000 up for grabs for every Championship home game Nottingham Forest hosts live on the channel, with that figure going up to £120,000 for games being played on a Sunday and £140,000 for Thursday games.

While visiting sides are awarded £10,000 for each game they participate in.
