How much of £90m Kai Havertz fee Chelsea could pay upfront as transfer edges closer

Chelsea are on the verge of confirming three new faces arriving at Stamford Bridge.

Frank Lampard and his backroom staff have been working hard to bring new players to the club ahead of the upcoming season.

Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner have already arrived, and are expected to be joined by Kai Havertz, Ben Chilwell and Thiago Silva.

Chelsea have been locked in transfer negotiations with Bayer Leverkusen over a move for Havertz for weeks, but it seems that a breakthrough was made over the weekend.

Kai Havertz: In profile

Reports suggest that Chelsea have agreed to pay the Bundesliga team a total of £90 million for the midfielder.

However, not all of that will be paid up front, with the deal made up of a number of add-ons.

According to German paper Bild , Chelsea will pay £72 million of the transfer fee now, with the possibility of a further £18 million coming in add ons.

The first £9 million of add odds will depend on how Chelsea do in the Champions League over the duration of Havertz’s five-year deal at Stamford Bridge.

That means the better the Blues do in the competition, the more they will have to pay to Leverkusen.

The report also claims that the second £9 million will depend on the number of titles Chelsea win within the same five year period.

Again, it means that should Chelsea have a successful five years, then they will owe more to the German side.

It is reported that Havertz has already agreed personal terms with Chelsea ahead of a move to Stamford Bridge.
