Antonio Brown’s stint with the Patriots lasted less than two calendar weeks, as the organization released the star wide receiver, who is facing multiple allegations of sexual assault and misconduct, on Friday.
Following his disastrous, and potentially orchestrated, exit from Oakland, the Patriots rewarded Brown with a 1-year deal worth a maximum of $15 million – but given the circumstances of Brown’s quick departure, the Patriots may be able to recoup the majority of that money.
According to Ian Rapoport, Brown’s contract included $1 million in guaranteed base salary, a $9 million signing bonus to be paid in two installments, and incentives that Brown will not be able to meet in 2019.
The Patriots were due to pay the first part of Brown’s signing bonus by September 23rd – but according to a report by Albert Breer, who shared a copy of Brown’s Patriots contract, Brown’s off-field actions could void his guarantees.
Brown will likely have to win a dispute with the Patriots to see any of his signing bonuses. Brown has already received two game checks, per Tom Pelissero.
