How much money does Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates make per second?

Bill Gates has an eye-watering net worth of £94billion – and the amount of money he earns from just blinking might shock you.

Microsoft co-founder Bill is the fourth richest person in the world, according to Forbes.

He is nearly $70billion richer than he was five years ago, in 2016.

Business Insider did some calculations on how much wealthier Gates got in the last year, and found out he makes approximately $4,630 (£3,342) per second.

He could be sleeping, eating dinner or just simply blinking – and the money would just keep ticking in.

They also calculated that if he spent $1million per day, it would take him about 400 million to spend his fortune.

But Gates is known for being relatively frugal with his money, despite indulging in a few luxurious such as his private plane.

He also owns a massive home in Washington, now thought to be worth $125million.

But in general, Gates prefers to donate money to charity.

In 2020 Gates stepped down from the board of Microsoft, choosing to spend more time on the Bill and Melinda Gate Foundation.

He co-chairs the foundation with Melinda, with the couple recently announcing their divorce.

Despite their split, the couple have said they will continue to dedicate much of their lives to philanthropic causes.

They launched the organisation in 2000, and have donated $45billion to global health, poverty and education since its inception.

Since the coronavirus pandemic began in 2020, the foundation has donated more than $250million.

Details about the divorce are unclear, but it is understood that the couple could part ways with an amicable 50:50 split.

The resulting settlement could be one of the largest ever. When Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos and his wife, MacKenzie, split up in 2019, their settlement was $38 billion.

The settlement made MacKenzie Scott the third-wealthiest woman.
