How much Manchester United would have to pay for Memphis Depay after deciding against buy-back option

Memphis Depay signed for Barcelona on a free transfer from Olympique Lyonnais this summer.

The former Manchester United star, signed for the French giants from Old Trafford after an unsuccessful stint with the Reds back in 2017.

United had the option of a buy-back clause and could have brought him back to Old Trafford but opted against it.

Following his departure from Old Trafford, Depay bounced back strong in France.

He scored 22 goals and registered 12 assists in 40 appearances in all competitions for the club last season.

His total tally at Lyon amounted to 178 games, 76 goals and 55 assists.

In comparison at United, Depay managed just 7 goals and 6 assists in 53 games.

The Dutch star is currently excelling at Euro 2020 too, where has caught the eye of many.

He currently has two goals and one assist in three games at the tournament so far.

Capable of playing on the left, as well as the centre-forward role, Depay could be a valuable future addition for United. Though he will be difficult to prize away from the Catalans.

According to Diario AS the Catalans have put a €400million release clause in Depay's contract.

The Reds are unlikely to go back in for the Dutch international.

United are currently working hard on securing a deal for Jadon Sancho who is younger and capable of playing in the same position as Depay.

The club view Sancho as the long-term future, and should the move reap the expected rewards, United will not be in need of new attacking recruits any time soon.

Rashford, Greenwood and Amad yet to hit their prime and who are also expected to play a key role in the club's future.

For Depay, the Old Trafford chapter is unlikely to reopen again.
