How much Manchester City have earned by reaching the 2020/2021 Champions League final

Manchester City have already made history by reaching their first ever Champions League final - but what has that relentless charge to Istanbul been worth to the club?

A memorable two-legged win over Paris Saint-Germain means Pep Guardiola's side are now potentially 90 minutes away from getting their hands on the most coveted trophy in club football.

Indeed, only Chelsea stand between them and a place as the top dogs in Europe.

Before they even kick a ball in the Turkish capital, their unbeaten journey to the final has seen City pocket upwards of €75million for their on-field efforts - but they could yet surpass the golden three-figure mark on account of other potential earnings that might come their way.

Inspired by Riyad Mahrez - who scored three goals across two semi-final legs against PSG - City have been awarded €15million in isolation for reaching the Champions League showpiece.

A further €4million is set to be handed out to the side who reign supreme in three weeks' time.

Rewind to the start of the competition, Guardiola's team were rampant winners of Group C as they clocked up five victories in total against the likes of Porto, Marseille and Olympiakos. Indeed, only Porto managed to even take two points off City - courtesy of a 0-0 draw in Portugal.

By merely taking part in the competition, each club pocketed a base fee worth €15.25million this season.

On top of that, City were able to cash in a further €13.5million (5 x €2.7million) for their five Group C wins, while that aforementioned draw with Porto was worth a further €0.9million to the cause.

Here is a breakdown of what the club have earned for their subsequent progression in the knock-out rounds;

Group stage (base fee) - €15.25m

Group stage (bonus) - €14.4m

Last-16 vs Borussia Monchengladbach - €9.5m

Quarter-finals vs Borussia Dortmund - €10.5m

Semi-finals vs Paris Saint-Germain - €12m

Finalists vs Chelsea - €15m (winners receive €19m)

Beyond the €76.65million they have already been awarded for their on-field exploits, the Premier League club will also benefit significantly as part of a market pool which, every season, is distributed between participants based on a proportional value of the TV market from the respective nation they are from.

While that figure hasn't yet been revealed for this campaign, it should be worth around €20million to City.

In the event of them going on to win the competition, that extra sum - in addition to a would-be €4million trophy bonus - would result in their total financial gain from this year's competition breaking through the €100million mark.

Of course, the feeling of lifting that famous trophy for the first time, well that would be priceless!
