This is how much it costs to rent shops on Edinburgh's busiest streets

Edinburgh's main shopping streets have been faced with many challenges and opportunities of late.

There are fears that retailers on the likes of Princes Street and George Street could be set for a rocky future due to the vast St James' Centre set to open in October - with over 20 million visitors expected to visit a year.

While fresh plans are in place to revitalise some famous city centre routes by relaxing strict planning rules and transforming them into area for cafes and restaurants.

Edinburgh Live have looked at how much traders would have to pay in rates and rent if they were to open businesses in some of these prime locations.

The following list shows these costs and how they vary across the capital's iconic streets.
