How much is Spotify? Premium subscription costs increase for UK listeners

Premium Spotify users in the UK are currently being notified that their prices will increase from their next billing period.

From the next subscription renewal date, premium listeners across the UK can expect to pay just over 8% more per month.

It comes after the popular music streaming app revealed it was upping the prices of its premium plans for the second time in 18 months for listeners in the UK.

According to some Spotify users, emails were sent notifying subscribers that they’ll be billed a higher price for their next payment, after the news was announced last month.

“As we continue innovating and enhancing the value we deliver, we periodically update our pricing to reflect local market conditions and economic factors, ensuring our service remains unparalleled,” the platform said in October about the price increase.

So, how much does Spotify cost now? Here’s what you need to know.

Spotify prices in the UK

The price of Spotify subscriptions depends on the country that you’re in.

According to the latest pricing announcement, the popular Premium individual plan is increasing by £1, from £11.99 to £12.99 in the UK.

Duo will now cost £17.99 from the next payment date, while the family plan will increase by £2 from £19.99 to£21.99.

The student price will remain the same, meaning those subscribers can enjoy unlimited and ad-free music from £5.99 a month.

These price changes aren’t just being felt across the UK; users in Switzerland will also see their subscriptions increase this month.

The announcement comes less than 18 months after Spotify raised prices in mid-2023.

“These updates will help us continue to deliver value to fans and artists on our platform,” the company said at the time.

How to save money on Spotify

Although it’s just a couple of quid, a lot of people are starting to feel the pinch in the run-up to Christmas.

There are a few options for subscribers who are looking to save money.

According to Money Supermarket, you can save around £36 by paying for a year’s subscription upfront with a gift card.

Spotify annual subscriptions are being sold at Argos and Currys for £120 for an Individual Premium plan across 12 months, meaning you can save quite a lot by paying up front.

Alternatively, you can consider downgrading your existing plans or try to look for an alternative streaming platform altogether, such as Apple or Amazon’s music streaming services.
