Peter Lawwell Celtic earnings laid bare as departing chief pockets £15m during Parkhead tenure

Peter Lawwell still has six months left at Celtic, but fans are already starting to reflect on his tenure.

The Parkhead supremo called it time on his position as chief executive on Friday morning as Dominic McKay was named as his successor.

The Hoops have accumulated 29 trophies under his stewardship during his 17-years at the club so from a footballing point of view, it's hard to be critical of his spell as he oversaw an incredibly successful period for the club.

Recency bias might hurt his legacy somewhat as Celtic are set to come up short in their Ten in a Row chase this season as Rangers run away with the title, but overall he got more things right than wrong.

But what about from a business standpoint?

Well, that actually strengthens his credentials even further as he steered Celtic through the credit crunch and helped the club post healthy profits year after year.

Stability shouldn't be overlooked and although there needs to be a fresh approach this summer, the financial position of the club should enable a relatively smooth transition and it's by no means going to be a massive rebuild under McKay.

Make no mistake about it though, it was a partnership that benefited both parties as Lawwell pocketed over £15million during his time at the club.

He earned £166,000 in his first year at the club and his salary rose to as much as £3.5million in 2019 after Celtic's successful spell under Brendan Rodgers.

Here's a full breakdown of how much he earned at Celtic.
