How much does a 2020 Super Bowl commercial cost?

With an expected audience of more than 100 million people for Sunday’s Chiefs-49ers Super Bowl LIV matchup, advertisers are shelling out record amounts to land precious airtime during the game.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the cost of a 30-second commercial during the 2020 Super Bowl is $5.6 million, up $400,000 from 2019.

Commercials for the very first Super Bowl in 1966 cost $42,500, which is worth around $331,000 today when adjusted for inflation. 30-second ads broke the million-dollar barrier for the first time in 1995 for Super Bowl XXIX, and hit $2 million in 2000. You can see the year-by-year breakdown here.
