How much do you know about Australia's women artists?

In the art world, like in many aspects of life, things aren't always fair.

For centuries, prominence in the arts — whether that's fame, critical praise, money or all three — has flowed disproportionately to men.

This International Women's Day, think about the art you consume on a regular basis — the books you read, your favourite TV shows, or the pictures hanging on your wall.

How many are by women artists? Does the disparity exist in your own experience?

And once you've done that, have a go at this quiz, and see how much you really know about Australian women in the arts.

This quiz was produced as part of the Know My Name project, an initiative led by the National Gallery of Australia that aims to celebrate and increase the recognition of the work of Australian women artists.

The initiative is inspired by similar campaigns, including the Countess Report and #5WomenArtists as well as work by the Sheila Foundation and Stella.

The exhibition Know My Name: Australian Women Artists 1900 to Now runs until June 26, 2022, at the National Gallery of Australia in Canberra.
