For the stars of the Bafta-winning Gogglebox, that dream is very much a reality and cast members are paid cold hard cash to watch hours of television each month.
The Channel 4 show has become a much-loved hit since it first aired in 2013, bagging a slew of awards in the process.
It's garnered both industry acclaim and public adoration, while making stars of cast members such as Scarlett Moffat and hotel owners Steph and Dom Parker.

How much do Gogglebox stars get paid to appear on the show?
According to the Sun, the Gogglebox contestants aren't paid a salary but are instead given £1,500 a month for watching 12 hours of television each week.
While this sounds like a long stint on the sofa, the filming takes take place across two shifts which each last six hours.
But this isn't all the cast members get as the paper claims the families are also promised free takeaways to chow down on while they watch.
Each family is reportedly left in charge of how they split the payment among themselves.

Last year the show's production company, Studio Lambert, said they were on the lookout for applicants for the next series of Gogglebox.
Hopefuls families have been told the only way to appear on the show is by being "street cast" - in other words, you have to be found by producers.
In the past, the company said it was on the hunt for people with "strong and entertaining" opinions about TV shows - so have your best takes ready.
