How much do Love Island stars get paid to leave their jobs amid 8 weeks of filming?

The new season of Love Island finally kicked off at the end of June despite the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic - with each contestant carrying out a two-week quarantine before the 2021 launch.

Irish presenter, Laura Whitmore jumped back into the main presenting role to reveal the 13 new contestants who are ready to find love.

While each contestant obviously must leave their jobs behind for the 8 weeks of filming, viewers have begun to query if they are paid for their time on the show.

According to reports, the show pays each of them a weekly wage to cover their bills, rent, and utilities at home while they're filming.

In 2018 contestants were reportedly paid €235 a week., but as the show quickly became a fan-favourite, this increased to €295 in 2019.

This year, the cast of 2021 are expected to receive a €295 weekly sum, while they also have the opportunity to win a total of £50,000 (€58,700) at the end of the series.

The winning couple, as voted for by the UK viewers, are handed envelopes with 50k in one and 0 in the other.

Whoever has the 50k then makes the decision on whether to share it or steal it for themselves.

Every year since the first season, however, each couple decided to share the winnings and have walked out of the Majorca villa with £25,000 (~€29,000) in the bag each.

Once out of the vila, most of the islanders go on to live off a wage from sponsored Instagram posts and deals with various brands like PrettyLittleThing and Public Desire.

Molly-Mae Hague and Maura Higgins are two of last year's contestants that went on to make a fortune from their public personas and now enjoy successful careers as influencers and entrepreneurs.

Molly-Mae has so far made millions from her deals with PrettyLittleThing and Beauty Works as well as her own fake tan line.

While Maura landed deals with clothing, makeup, and shoe lines, and recently was announced as the presenter of Glow Up here in Ireland.

Many contestants now have net worths in the millions since their departure from the popular dating show.
