Europa League prize money: How much Arsenal or Chelsea could earn if they win the final

The day is finally here as Arsenal and Chelsea prepare for their showdown in the Europa League final in Baku.

Rarely has a European final been so plagued by off-field issues than this game in Baku on Wednesday night, owing to criticism over the location of the venue, the difficulties for supporters in getting there and the fact that Arsenal midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan will not be involved due to concerns over his personal safety as a result of conflict between his home country Armenia and the host nation Azerbaijan

In a statement, Arsenal said: "We don't feel he can travel and it's extraordinarily sad. You don't get a chance to play in major European finals often and Miki has had it taken away from him..

Still, the day has now arrived and both sides must now focus on the final - with the knowledge for Arsenal that winning the tournament will see them back in the Champions League for the first time since 2016/17.

But how much could they earn from winning the final? We take a look, below.

Last season, Arsenal earned a little under €37.8million for reaching the Europa League semi-finals, where they were knocked out by Atletico Madrid.

UEFA revamped the prize money on offer at the end of the season, under a new three-year arrangement lasting until the 2020/21 season.

This season, winnings will be split into four different pillars, including starting fees for each participating club and performance-related fixed amounts.

In addition, 15 per cent will be distributed on the basis of the ten-year performance-based coefficient rankings, with 30 per cent allocated to variable amounts as part of the market pool prize money system - which is based on five factors, including performances in the previous season’s domestic competitions as well the progress in the current season’s Europa League.

UEFA have confirmed that a total of €560million has been set aside for distribution to clubs participating in the Europa League this season.

It is understood that both Arsenal and Chelsea are both set to receive around €4.5million for reaching the final, as detailed in UEFA's amounts for winnings for progression at each stage of the tournament, with an additional €4million for the winners of the competition, although UEFA organisers say the figures will be confirmed after the final.
