How much Arsenal's Premier League away defeats this season has cost Gunners supporters

In order to hold on to a top four spot, Arsenal will need to sort out their away form in the Premier League.

Only the top two - Manchester City and Liverpool - have a better home record than the Gunners across the entire division this season, but the same issues that affected them on the road last season remain.

Of their 14 away games thus far they've won just five and have gained maximum points just once in 2019 and that was against bottom of the table Huddersfield Town at the beginning of February.

Arsenal supporters have all noticed something hilarious about the new Tottenham stadium

It could have - or perhaps should have - been two away league wins in 2019 but Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang saw his last-minute penalty saved by Tottenham Hotspur captain Hugo Lloris in the north London derby at Wembley Stadium on March 3.

A poor run of form away from home won't stop supporters from travelling up and down the country, but a study shows how much money Arsenal fans have lost from the five away defeats this season.

Unai Emery's side rank 17th, as local supporters have lost a collective £339.43 on fuel (£189.43) and tickets (£150.00) from venturing to spectate all the away defeats so far this season

That's 1,026 miles which is comparable to them driving to Nantes and back

Stefan Balkenende, a spokesperson from LiveFootballTickets.com commented: "Local supporters personify the spirit and culture of their football club.

"Their dedication to all matters regarding their team’s progress throughout the season is represented by them committing a significant amount of time and money going to matches. This includes travelling up and down the country to attend games.

"Whilst away matches which result in wins usually justify the substantial expenditure to go to them, losses can sometimes feel like a huge waste of money.

"Especially, if the team has not put in a good performance.

"This research highlights the money supporters have essentially ‘lost’ from their Premier League teams away woes – with some fans feeling more of a pinch on their wallets than others."

Per Mertesacker's comments reveal the big challenge Arsenal face keeping their top young talent

With eight games remaining in the Premier League season, the Gunners are currently in the driving seat to claim a top four finish and thus secure a return to the Champions League following a two-year absence.

However, five of those are away from home which includes trips to Goodison Park (vs Everton), Vicarage Road (vs Watford), Molineux (vs Wolves), the King Power Stadium (vs Leicester City) and Turf Moor against Burnley on the final day.

It remains to be seen just how many points are needed to seal a top four finish, but what is for certain is that Arsenal will need to improve on the number of five away league wins this season.
