How much alcohol can you take to Boardmasters and other strict festival rules

Boardmasters Festival is back again this summer, promising a wide range of musical acts in Cornwall's surfing capital, Newquay.

The festival, which began in 1981, also showcases top surfing and skateboarding talent with competitions scheduled throughout the event.

This year, Boardmasters will take place between August 10 and August 14 on Watergate Bay and Fistral Beach in Newquay.

With thousands of people expected to arrive in Newquay over the next few days, it's important to know the dos and don'ts of the festival so you can steer clear of trouble.

Here's everything you need to know the rules of Boardmasters 2022.

How old do you have to be for Boardmasters?

All ages are welcome at Boardmasters but in order to attend the festival without an adult, you must be over the age of 16.

Is there re-admission to the festival?

Camping, VIP Camping, Charger and 3 Day Non-Camping ticket holders are able to re-enter the festival if they wish to explore Newquay during the event.

Day ticketholders will not be allowed to re-enter the festival.

How much alcohol can you take to Boardmasters?

According to the Boardmasters website, weekend campers aged 18 or over can bring in limited amounts and types of alcohol to the campsite.

The website states: "You are only permitted to bring either 24 cans of beer/lager and/or cider and/or alcopops per person or two bottles of wine (which must be decanted from glass bottles) per person into the campsites."

These items may only be brought into the venue on first entry and alcoholic beverages that exceed 12% ABV are strictly prohibited.

What items are prohibited from Boardmasters?

According to the festival's website, the following items are banned from the event.

  • Glass bottles

  • No food inside the main music arena

  • Illegal substances, psychoactive substances, nitrous oxide and legal highs

  • Spray paint aerosols

  • Straight spirits (alcohol)

  • Anything that could be reasonably considered for use as a weapon

  • Candles and sky lanterns

  • Portable or disposable barbecues/gas/paraffin lamps or any fire/gas related cooking equipment

  • Portable laser equipment and pointer-pens

  • Drones, quadcopters, remote controlled flying devices

  • Unofficial tabards or hi-vis jackets

  • Megaphones, compressed air and air horns

  • Fireworks, flares, smoke bombs and smoke machines

  • Large sound systems (personal speakers must be no more than 30x10x10cm)

  • Animals with the exception of guide dogs

  • Generators, apart from those permanently built into campervans

  • Gas canisters or cylinders apart from those fitted in campervans

  • Professional cameras or video recording equipment (including SLRs and anything with a detachable lens)

  • Campfires are not permitted.
