How Mint Velvet won the hearts (and pockets) of Gen Z

A confession: I’d never shopped at Mint Velvet before.

In my head, it belonged to a world of sensible silhouettes, muted colours, and grown-up elegance.

But curiosity, an overwhelming torrent of Instagram ads from influencers, and the subsequent promise of a few standout pieces led me to browse the brand’s online offering. What I found was something entirely unexpected.

The experience has been less traditional high street stalwart and more akin to stumbling upon a brand that has reinvented itself entirely. Clean-cut blazers with oversized silhouettes, chic and luxe-looking midi dresses, perfect layering pieces paired with knits in textures and patterns that somehow feel both luxe and effortless, caught my eye immediately. Not to mention the handbags, shoes and accessories on offer.

It’s a transformation that works on every level. The clothes are stylish yet approachable, playful without tipping into gimmicky. Mint Velvet has become a veritable one-stop shop, offering complete outfits that can take you from office to evening wear with ease.

On the racks, you can see the nods to current trends - unexpected silhouettes and seasonal colour pops (for autumn/winter, it’s burgundy) - but everything remains wearable, grounded in the kind of versatility that made Mint Velvet appealing in the first place. The brand has somehow aligned itself with Gen-Z style sensibilities without losing its core identity, creating a line that feels modern and fresh while still being recognisably Mint Velvet.

As I type, I have a virtual bag full of pieces that felt both aspirational and utterly practical. More than that, I can’ stop thinking about how rare it is to see a brand execute a reinvention with such style and restraint.

Mint Velvet has emerged from its former image with something that feels effortless, contemporary, and very now – so I’ve curated my favourite pieces for you to shop below.

There’s something very ME+EM about this glorious neutral knit – but not the price. At just under £80, it’s a chic and value for money investment in cosy yet transitional style.
