How Mikey Johnston's Brazilian move fell through after president's intervention

Ex-Celtic star Mikey Johnston's move to Brazil collapsed after the Flamengo president personally vetoed the £5 million deal...despite manager Filipe Luis discussing his plans for him on a video call.

The former Scotland Under 21s winger was left gutted after his dream move to South America was suddenly cancelled despite the West Brom player agreeing terms.

And it's now been revealed in Brazil that Johnston was called personally by the manager of the Rio de Janeiro giants Luis to discuss his role in the team.

However, both the manager and Johnston were left stunned when the club's president Luiz Eduardo Baptista called off the deal himself.

Reports have indicated that the president refused to agree to the transfer after receiving his injury report, which flagged up concerns over his fitness history.

And he pulled the plug on the huge deal, leaving both Johnston and Luis massively frustrated with the player now back at the English Championship club on their pre-season training camp in Austria.
