How Meghan and Harry's new baby will still qualify for royal title despite Megxit

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been stripped of their titles after stepping away from royal life.

Many are now questioning whether their unborn child will be able to use royal monikers.

It comes after the Duke and Duchess lost their HRH titles when they confirmed they would not return to the royal fold.

Despite this their unborn child would still be allowed to use royal titles, although the couple are unlikely to give them any.

This son Archie could have been named the Earl of Dumbarton or Lord Archie Mountbatten-Windsor, however the couple decided against this.

Instead he is simply Master Archie Mountbatten-Windsor.

This strongly suggests the couple will also ditch the royal titles for their second child, OK! magazine reports.

Royal titles are passed down through male heirs, meaning that any of Prince Harry's children will be able to have one.

On top of losing their HRH, Harry and Meghan are also being stripped of their honorary military appointments and royal patronages.

The Queen forced the pair to sever all official links with The Firm after they decided to renounce their duties and step away from public service for good.

Harry's honorary military appointments, such as Captain General of the Royal Marines which he took over from his grandfather Prince Philip only in 2017, will now be redistributed to another member of the family.

So too will the patronage of the National Theatre the Queen gifted to former actress Meghan in 2019, who had held it for 45 years.

A statement by Buckingham Palace said they are "saddened by their decision" but said Meghan and Harry "remain much loved members of the family."

Buckingam Palace confirmed today: "Following conversations with The Duke, The Queen has written confirming that in stepping away from the work of The Royal Family it is not possible to continue with the responsibilities and duties that come with a life of public service.

"The honorary military appointments and Royal patronages held by The Duke and Duchess will therefore be returned to Her Majesty, before being redistributed among working members of The Royal Family.

"While all are saddened by their decision, The Duke and Duchess remain much loved members of the family."

Harry and Meghan fired back at the statement, claiming they would continue to support the organisations they previously represented regardless of their official role.

A spokesman for the couple said: "We can all live a life of service. Service is universal."
